Excerpt

He is used to silence, and comfortable with not speaking. Words are needed now, and it is important that they are the right words, the gentle words, not the slings and arrows that come so easily to his tongue, but he is not sure where the words might be hiding. Are they lying in wait like enemy combatants held at bay for several decades, or are they gone, banished from the labyrinth of his psyche?

Is it possible the brain loses words it does not use, words like love and welcome and home and heart?

Shari Lane

I’ve been a lawyer, board president, preschool teacher and middle school teacher, friend, spouse, mother, and now grandmother, but one thing has never changed: from the time I could hold a pencil, I’ve been a writer of stories, a spinner of tales - often involving dragons (literal or metaphorical). I believe we are here to care for each other and this earth. Most of all, I believe in kindness and laughter. (And music and good books, and time spent with children and dogs. And chocolate.)
